How to Get Fit – 6 Steps to Begin

At some time in most people’s lives, they make the decision to get fit. The majority of people fail because they do not know what to do or how to stay consistent. Here are my 6 easy steps in beginning a fitness journey.

  1. Make a Choice – Determine if you want to lose weight, gain muscle, lose fat or make an ultimate transformation. Simple stating that you want to get fit is not enough. What does “fit” look like? What do fit people do, eat, and feel? Be specific. Imagine and document what being fit means to you.

  2. Put it Your Schedule- If it is important to you, make it a priority by making time to work towards being fit. Just like brushing your teeth or taking a shower, there is a time for everything that needs to be done. Include time for shopping, meal prepping, working out, and even eating so that it doesn’t get left out.

  3. Plan for Success – There are many ways to get fit, so no matter which way you choose, make an action plan on what you need to eat and the exercises you will perform. Nutrition is one of the most important factors and there are so many ways to plan your nutrition – If It Fits in Your Marcos (IIFYM), Paleo, Atkin, Zone, Weight Watchers, Customized plans, etc.

  4. Tell Someone – By going public, it begins to make you accountable for your actions. Also, it helps to build a support system for your goals. Even posting it on social media is a first step at showing that you are serious about your decision.

  5. Take a picture and measurements – The scale should not be your only measure of success. Take a picture in form fitting clothes or swim wear to document your starting point. Continue to take make pictures throughout your journey. You will be amazed at how much you can change, and the pictures don’t lie. Also, take at least the measurements of your neck, arms, chest, waist, hips, and thighs with a measuring tape, and if you have access to a machine o scale that measures body fat, do that too. You don’t have to post these items on social media, but at least keep a file so that you can go back and refer to them,

  6. Be Consistent – Once you commit to reaching your goals, make the actions it takes to achieve that goal a part of your routine. There may be times that you slip, but don’t give up. Go back to your healthy, fit actions. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so it will take time to achieve you desired body, put it will happen, and it will be worth It!
